Chickpea Curry (Chole) Recipe

CHICKPEA CURRY: A great curry to make for all your friends or just to batch cook.

This serves around 5-6 people, so can make and freeze to eat at a later date.

Ingredients

  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 2 small tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • Thumb sized ginger piece, choppped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 x 400g chickpeas, drained
  • 1 Teabag
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Splash of tamarind sauce
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • A bunch of fresh coriander, finely chopped

Serve with rice or naan bread

CHICKPEA CURRY

Instructions

  1. Prepare all the ingredients listed above.
  2. In a large saucepan, pour the chickpeas into the pan and add boiling water until all the chickpeas are submerged.
  3. Put a teabag into the pan to let the food turn a nice brown colour, and leave to cook until the chickpeas are tender.
  4. In a separate pan, heat with oil and add the ghee, bay leaves, onion, ginger, chillies, garlic and mix well.
  5. Next add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, tamarind, cumin powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and anarda.
  6. Add the chickpea mix to the masala and cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Serve with rice or naan bread.
